CDM project in Bangladesh

Our Clean Development Mechanism program in Bangladesh reduces emissions of methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas, in the gas distribution network in the capitol region of Dakar. The project employs and trains more than 100 people local employees, transfers hi-tec equipment to reducing gas loss in distribution and avoiding over 3.5m tons of CO2 equivalents per year.

The project is a great example of a Clean Development Mechanism project with a high level of sustainable low carbon development and safety benefits.

Project impacts

Improves Bangladesh’s balance of payments, in the face of costly imported energy

Reduces 3,7 million tons of CO2 equivalents annually

Transfers specialized technology, materials and techniques to a Least Developed Country

Provides short and long-term employment (70 local Bangladeshis have received training by eternal experts and an additional 30 have been employed to do repairments)

Saves money for the mostly state-owned gas company

Reduces the risk of accidents and hazardous pollution from gas leaks

Improves energy supply for cooking and heating

The project is developed under the CDM Methodology AM0023 and pans 10 years during which the project will be monitored by the UNFCCC officials.
